As an experienced FLexercise teacher for over 30 years it is a natural progression to teach classes for people with Parkinson’s, using PWR!Moves.
Living with Parkinson’s, I know first-hand the importance of using exercise as a tool to maintain mobility and function. My background as an exercise professional has empowered me in dealing with a Parkinson’s diagnosis and helped me reduce the impact of the symptoms in my daily life.
I also teach two fun and vibrant FLexercise classes targeted at the over 50s.
I trained as an FLexercise teacher over 30 years ago in Ireland and have been teaching community classes ever since first in Ireland, then Oxford and since the late 1990s in London UK. I have taught all age groups from university students to women in their 80s. I currently focus on teaching classes for over 50s. Through teaching my classes I have observed at first hand the health benefits of exercise; aches and pains are reduced, balance improves, mental health issues are less acute, class members become more body aware and most importantly people have fun and enjoy the social experience and make friends for life.
I teach a Parkinson-specific exercise class that does “function exercise" to keep you moving and doing more of what you want to do! As you practise, you will be challenged physically and cognitively while working on fitness goals of strength, balance, agility, aerobics, and flexibility. Exercises are designed to counteract your PD symptoms, improve your fitness, and increase your daily activity. This whole body, function-focused exercise class will push you to do more than you think you can in a fun, social and empowering environment! Sessions are adapted to your ability. PWR!Moves Instructors can collaborate with your physiotherapist or occupational therapist if you have specific rehabilitation targets. Music is used in a class to help with motivation and increase movement.
The FLexercise system blends the principles of correct body alignment, joint mobilisation, muscle strengthening and lengthening and coordinated movement without tension. Delivered to a great mix of musical genres, the system has something for everyone. There is no pre-prescribed choreography and this allows me to adapt exercise and movement for each participant whilst enabling them to enjoy the benefits of a group exercise environment. Class participants report aches and pains are reduced, balance improves, mental health issues are less acute, they become more body aware and have fun. I have people in my classes pre-, post-op for hip; knee replacement; arthritis; osteoporosis ..
" Lidia is extremely knowledgeable on the benefits of functional fitness but more importantly she is passionate about helping and educating her clients. I have really enjoyed having Lidia teach me - she is very patient and encouraging plus her classes are fun- they have helped improve my overall fitness, movement (both my fine motor skills and gait) and mood."
"Your meticulous attention to detail and dedication to understanding the unique challenges faced by individuals like myself who suffer from Parkinson's has had a significant and positive impact on my life. In a relatively short period, I have experienced remarkable improvements in my gait, posture, muscle strength, and flexibility, which I attribute to your expert guidance and support"
• it is fun & friendly
• it is good for your mind and body
• it is adaptable, standing or sitting
• if your class is not available you can drop into another teacher’s class, be welcomed by the members and know that you will be able to follow the class
